About the books, the author and the agent

Who knew that acting, improv and copywriting would be the perfect preparation for children’s book writing?

From nonfiction to lyrical, humorous to bedtime, difficult subjects to targeted, highly marketable stories, I am consistently adding to a stable of texts that are workshopped and ready to go.

  • My first picture book, Goldie Blox and the Dunk Tank, sells worldwide through Toys R Us, Amazon.com and independent toy stores. Part of the Goldie Blox franchise, the book empowers budding engineers to use building and spatial skills to solve a problem--in this case, a very dirty dog who hates baths. Says one reviewer, "I LOVE it that a girl's interest in narrative has been combined with emergent engineering skills. What a great way to organically encourage a girl to feel confident in her ability to BUILD!"

I’m currently working on my first young adult novel. So, range!

  • I grew up on a diet of Nancy Drew, Roald Dahl and the Brothers Grimm, drawn to stories that acknowledge darkness but offer hope for resolution, justice and even happiness.

I celebrate resourcefulness, determination and, above all, kindness. These are the qualities that unify my texts, from fiction to nonfiction and difficult to lighter subjects.

My biggest joy is using my powers for good.

I am an active member of SCBWI. Honors awarded to my work include:

2018 Austin SCBWI Cynthia Leitich Smith Writing Mentor Award – Winner (for Young Adult Work in Progress)

2016 Austin SCBWI Scholarship for Creators of Diverse Characters – Finalist, Top 5 entries

2016 Austin SCBWI Cynthia Leitich Smith Writing Mentor Award – Finalist (For Picture Books - Fiction and Nonfiction)

  • I am currently seeking representation. The agent of my dreams is brave--willing to champion stories that break the rules. Stories that need to be told.

In return, you'll work with a talent and a professional: someone who understands the business, meets deadlines, enjoys collaboration, appreciates a critical eye and cares most of all about getting the best work possible in front of a very deserving and discerning audience.

Oh yes, and we'll laugh. A lot. Let's talk.

  • I’d love to hear from you! Reach out to me at actoraimee@gmail.com.

“My personal writing rules come from my sketch comedy and improv training: ‘Work at the top of your brains at all times’ and ‘Never underestimate or condescend to your audience.’”
